Who Am I?

stacypouliot2018-1.jpg
I’m an educator with over twenty years of experience in teaching, tutoring, and curriculum design across physics, mathematics, and the humanities. Nearly half of my career has been dedicated to online education, working with students in both one-on-one and classroom settings.

I began teaching while completing my undergraduate studies in *Physics (Honors)* and *English (Creative Writing)*, and continued as a graduate teaching assistant in astronomy and undergraduate physics laboratories during my master’s degree in physics. Alongside my studies, I mentored high school students through a summer research program focused on nuclear physics — an experience that confirmed my passion for helping students engage deeply with challenging material.

After graduate school, I moved into secondary and university-level teaching in the United States, including roles teaching physics, statistics, and mathematics at Full Sail University in Florida. During this time, I was closely involved in the transition from traditional classroom teaching to hybrid and online learning, designing and delivering courses in both formats while also supporting students through private tutoring and academic coaching.

Seeking to broaden my impact and follow a long-held goal of living abroad, I later relocated to Australia and completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) at The University of Queensland. I have since taught in Melbourne high schools under both the VCE and IB curricula, working with students across SL and HL physics, mathematics, literature, and extended research projects. Having grown up in an IB environment, I continue to value the IB’s emphasis on curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful learning.

My approach to tutoring is thoughtful, structured, and student-centered. I aim not only to improve academic performance, but also to help students build confidence, develop effective study habits, and better understand how they learn.

Outside of teaching, I’m a published poet and short story writer, an amateur astrophotographer, and a lifelong learner who still enjoys music, creative projects, and the occasional video game. These interests shape how I teach — with curiosity, creativity, and respect for each student’s unique way of thinking.

How I Teach

Endless Possibilities

I believe learning works best when students feel safe, respected, and genuinely supported. My approach is grounded in curiosity, dialogue, and clear structure, creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing in confidence.

With experience across AP, NY State, VCE, IB, and the Australian National Curriculum, I work with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles. I aim to meet each student where they are, using multiple ways of explaining ideas until concepts truly make sense.

A student's well being is central to my practice. I strive to create a non-judgmental learning space built on mutual respect, open communication, and accountability. Students are encouraged to reflect on their learning, take ownership of their progress, and develop skills that extend beyond individual subjects — including organization, self-regulation, and problem-solving.

I believe learning is not a one-way process. Progress happens through conversation, collaboration, and thoughtful guidance. My role is not only to teach content, but to help students understand how they learn, so they can approach future challenges with confidence and independence.
